At Gates Psychology, you are welcome to consult with one of our Clinical Psychologists without referral at any time. However, please note that with a relevant GP referral in place you are eligible to receive the maximum available Medicare rebate.
Medicare Rebates
Medicare now offers rebates for individuals who visit a Clinical Psychologist.
Gates Psychology's elite accreditations and qualifications means you are eligible for the maximum available Medicare rebate. This makes us one of the few psychology practices who are able to offer this in the Cairns region.
However, to be eligible for this rebate, you do need to visit your GP first, explain your mental health concerns and obtain a referral called a Mental Health Care Plan.
It is recommended that you book a long consultation with your GP so that they can have adequate time to develop a care plan with you.
Your referral then entitles you to receive the maximum Medicare rebate when you consult one of our Clinical Psychologists.
Bring this referral along with you on your first visit to Gates Psychology and we will make the rest easy for you.
With this referral in place, you are entitled to 12 treatment sessions per calendar year (with up to 18 sessions in special circumstances).

Private Health Rebates
A GP referral is not necessary should you plan to make a claim through your private health fund.
Contact your private health fund to check on eligibility and the level of rebate they provide for psychological services.
